Seeing Clearly

I was about to run some errands and decided to start a load of laundry first, since I was trying to be productive. My husband’s motorcycle gear was particularly soiled so I grabbed a box of Borax off my counter and sprinkled some into the machine. As I placed the box back on the counter, I somehow nudged the bottle of bleach I had used earlier in the day, and, before I realized what was happening, it fell to the floor with such force that the lid popped off and a stream of bleach shot directly into my right eye! I couldn’t believe what had just happened. The stinging was immediate and intense. I ran to the sink within seconds to flush out the caustic bleach. As I stuck my head under the spout and let the cool water pool into my hand and across my open eye, I called for my kids to help. I needed to know the exact directions on the bottle in case of accidental eye contact. My son read the label to me: “Flush with cool water for 15-20 minutes.” I did precisely as directed and called the ophthalmologist. Fortunately for me, I reacted quickly. After a visit to the eye doctor, and some time, my eye is healed.

This little accident got me thinking about the gift of sight and our eternal vision. How do we keep our eye single to the glory of God? There are corrosive forces trying to block our vision. There is nothing Satan would like more than to cloud our judgment or obstruct our view as we turn our eyes to our Savior, Jesus Christ.

How do we protect ourselves from evil influences?

OUR INSTRUCTIONS

Our instructions are very clear. John 14:6 tells us, “I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Jesus Christ is the way. How fortunate we are that we have a loving Heavenly Father who wants us to return to Him, and has provided a Savior who is the perfect example for us to follow. HE is our direction. In case of emergency, and in every situation, follow Him.

During His mortal ministry, the Savior said, “He that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” ( John 8:12)

As we invite Christ into our lives we will be blessed with His Light that dispels darkness and evil. When we follow Him, our course is sure, and we will see the way clearly.

OUR GUIDE

Christ’s perfect life and example show us our path. He also left us with the gift of the Holy Spirit, which can help and guide us in every situation.

As we listen to the promptings that come to our hearts and our minds, we can be sure of our course. Christ provides us with spiritual GPS to guide us on the path.

OUR PART

Once we clearly see the path Christ charted, we can be obedient to His clear and simple words: “If ye love me, keep my commandments,” and “Come, follow me.” Our obedience shows love and devotion to God and will allow the Gift of the Holy Ghost to be an active guide in our lives.

OUR PROMISE

As we promise to follow Christ and be obedient to all He taught, we can then become partakers of the greatest gift of salvation through Him. I know as we keep our eye single to God, we will be directed back to Him. I find peace in my life as I try my best to focus on Jesus. May our vision be clear as we look to Him to guide our way.

In faith,

Christie
