Tim Ballard goes deep in the underbelly of the sex slavery trade to rescue God’s precious children. He is a light in the darkness.
Tim is often asked, “How do you deal with darkness? How do you keep the lights on in darkness?”
Tim says, “Fear is darkness. It’s the opposite of what God wants you to do. In fact it’s the tool that the enemies of God use to debilitate you, to stop you in your tracks, to kick you off course so you cannot accomplish the things you are here on earth to accomplish.”
Every day Tim deals with lost and exploited children. He sees how easily they are kidnapped and sold into the dark and lucrative sex trade. Tim’s faith in God and his divine call to rescue children gives him the power to succeed in rescuing those enslaved.
Tim states, “Faith is an action word.” When Ballard was an agent in the government, he learned about the abduction of a young boy. Gardy was kidnapped from the parking lot of the chapel in Haiti where his father, Guesno Mardy, served as pastor. Gardy’s father told Ballard that at night he walks the street of Port-au-Prince, listening and hoping to hear the cry of his son. Tim was compelled to help rescue Gardy, and promised Guesno he would do everything he could to find his son.
This promise lead Ballard to take a leap of faith. “Once we feel our calling, faith is the thing we are now going to use to realize our goal,” he says. Tim left his job as a Special Agent for the Department of Homeland Security, where he was deployed as an undercover operative for the U.S. Child Sex Tourism Jump Team. The freedom from jurisdiction limitations allowed Ballard to work with other governments to liberate children.
In December 2013, Tim founded Operation Underground Railroad, a non-profit organization that has executed the rescue of over 1600 victims to date. Their first mission resulted in the liberation of 28 children who were housed at an orphanage used as a front to sell children into the sex trade. While the rescue was a huge success, sadly the son of Guesno Mardy had already been sold.
Since that first raid in 2014, Ballard and his carefully constructed team of ex-Navy Seals and operatives continue to dive into the vile pit of sex slavery. They pray together as they begin each mission and ask God to direct their efforts. While going undercover to trap and arrest these child traffickers, somehow Tim feels closer to God in those moments. He feels God’s presence as he directs this battle of good and evil.
Tim explains,”Those are some of the lightest moments, those are some of the most brilliant moments of my life.” Tim testifies that the doctrine of angels is real, and the Light of God gives him the strength to withstand the darkness.
“It hit me like a ton of bricks. . . God is there. The angels are with these children,”
“The closer I get to the darkest place, especially where the kids are, I witness angels there.”
“When I’m close to the darkest things, that’s what I’ve been feeling. That’s the light. God is there,” Tim shares. ( Glen Beck Podcast where Tim Ballard tells his story)
On November 8th, Ballard shared this musical tribute to O.U.R. Rescue on his Facebook page with the following caption, “This video with GENTRI and Operation Underground Railroad always brings tears to my eyes.”
In the past four years of existence, O.U.R. has rescued 1,682 victims and assisted in the arrests of more than 848 traffickers around the world. The search for Gardy continues.
I am so inspired by Tim Ballard and his life’s mission to rescue children who are abducted, and living in the most evil, dark circumstances. May we follow his example and seek light and direction from God in our lives, then act with faith in the ways we are directed. We also can become beacons of light and illuminate the darkness in the world, one light at a time.
