Community Volunteers Needed

Possibly the “best County Fair on Earth.”

The North Central Washington Fair in Douglas County, Washington is inviting volunteers to participate in a community service project at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Waterville on Saturday, October 15, 2022, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

“We are renovating one of our large exhibit barns. This is our barn where we display horticulture, food preservation, photography, arts and crafts, etc.” explained Marie Overton, a member of the Fair Board. She further explained, “We will be knocking down interior walls and removing false ceilings, as well as, removing old paneling from the main walls.”

Renovation of an exhibit barn is an enormous undertaking. Community support on a project of this magnitude is vitally important. All volunteers are welcome as we can use people of all different skills and ability levels.

The volunteers will be assisting with the demolition. In addition, we need people who can sweep and help clear the debris as it is removed and help remove nails out of wood so it can be recycled and repurposed. If you have tools to use or lend, please bring them along. (I recommend labeling them with your name.) The tools that would be particularly helpful are Sawzall’s, hammers, prybars, and ladders.

BBQ hamburgers will be provided at noon. If you would like, bring a side to share and bring your own chairs for a place to sit. This is a great opportunity to get out into our community and make a difference.

This community volunteer effort is being organized by Leon Grant and Marie Overton and supported by Douglas County and the North Central Washington Fair.

In the summer of 2022 community volunteers and fair staff remodeled the first of the exhibit barns. We have included pictures of the barn we are redoing and the barn we already renovated so you have an idea of what the project goals are.
